Black History Tours at South-View Cemetery

Audiences will be led by historic interpreters on a Black history tour of South-View. Founded in 1886 by a collective of Atlanta Black businessmen in response to the mistreatment of Black families in segregated cemeteries, South-View Cemetery is the final resting place for over 80,000 African Americans today, many of whom have made significant contributions to American history and the struggle for freedom and peace. Among the many notables are many civil rights activists including Dr. Martin Luther King (before being moved) and his parents and more recently Congressman John Lewis.
